Pramod Bhagat beats compatriot Manoj Sarkar in Men’s Singles SL3 Group A Match at Paralympics 2020
It was an all Indian contest as the reigning world champion Pramod Bhagat wins against Manoj Sarkar in the Group A Stage of Men’s Singles SL3 category
For India, Day 8 of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics went with not gaining any medals, the tally stays as it is with 10 medals consisting of two gold, five silver, and three bronze. For India, the only win on Wednesday was of Para-Badminton player Pramod Bhagat as he defeated his compatriot Manoj Sarkar in the Men’s Singles SL3 group stage match.
The World No. 1 Pramod Bhagat won with a score of 21-10, 21-23, 21-9 against the World No.3 Manoj Sarkar in a match that lasted 56 minutes at the Court 3 of the Yoyogi National Stadium on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old Manoj Sarkar despite losing the 1st game fought back and won the 2nd game sending the match into the decider. But it was the 33-year-old top-seeded, Pramod Bhagat that won the final game with ease.
The Group A of Men’s Singles SL3 event consists of the two Indian players; Pramod Bhagat and Manoj Sarkar and World No. 6 Oleksandr Chyrkov from Ukraine.
The format of the Men’s Singles SL3 is that there are a total of six competitors divided into 2 Groups i.e. Group A and Group B and the top 2 players from each group advance to the knockout stage – the Semi-finals.
