Paris Olympics 2024: Elon Musk Defends Boxer Angela Carini After Shocking Defeat
In a disappointing turn of events, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif surpassed Angela Carini when she abandoned their controversial women’s 66kg Round of 16 bout in the North Paris Arena in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday.

In a disappointing turn of events, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif surpassed Angela Carini when she abandoned their controversial women’s 66kg Round of 16 bout in the North Paris Arena in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday. It took just 46 seconds into the first round for Angela Carini to make the decision that ended her time in the ongoing Paris Summer Olympic Games 2024.
It has to be noted that Khelif has been in the news ever since he was disqualified from the gold medal race at the World Championships in New Delhi after he failed to pass the gender eligibility tests. Khelif was earlier disqualified by the International Boxing Association or the IBA.
Apart from Khelif, Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu Ting has also faced significant criticism from several high-profile boxers.
Background – EXPLAINED
What happened was, that Imane Khelif was disqualified hours before her gold medal contest against China’s Yang Liu at the World Championships after she failed the gender eligibility tests. Lin was refused her bronze medal after she failed to meet the gender eligibility requirements based on the outcome of a biochemical test.
This was the first time that a Chinese Taipei athlete was asked to take a biochemical test for gender eligibility since the IBA implemented this new way of testing.
During the World Championships last year, IBA President Umar Kremlev stated: “Based on DNA tests, we identified a number of athletes who tried to trick their colleagues into posing as women.”
“According to the results of the tests, it was proved that they have XY chromosomes. Such athletes were excluded from competition.”
An important point that needs to be noted here is that the Olympic boxing competition in Paris is being overseen by the International Olympic Committee and not by the IBA.
Eventually, it was decided that both the fighters would be competing with each other in their women’s 66kg and women’s 57kg events under the less strict gender eligibility rules that were in place for the Tokyo Olympic Games in the year 2021.
What Happened During The Bout
Talking about the match, Angela Carini, who is six centimeters shorter than Khelif, went to her coach after 30 seconds to fix her headgear but shortly after she resumed her fight, she returned back to the corner and asked for the match to be stopped. After the game was stopped, the referee raised Imane Khelif’s hand in the air. However, shocked Angela Carini yanked her hand away from the referee before exiting the ring without shaking her opponent’s hand.
Not able to control her emotions, the Italian boxer was seen dropping down to her knees and bursting into tears, claiming that she had never felt such strong blows in a bout before this game.
“I have always honoured my country with loyalty,” a tearful Carini said, as reported by Reuters.
“This time I didn’t succeed because I couldn’t fight anymore. “I put an end to the match because after the second blow, after years of experience in the ring and a life of fighting, I felt a strong pain in my nose. I said ‘that’s enough’ because… I could not bring the match to an end. So I thought, maybe it’s better to put an end to the match.”

What I saw.
A woman getting hit SO hard, in the head, by a man, that she wisely chose to stop it, because she KNEW if she didn’t, she’d be seriously injured or worse.
Blood, sweat, tears, training, dreams…shattered….
The ABSOLUTE STATE of this…@iocmedia

A man just hit a woman until she cried. Normally we have a word for that and it isn’t “sport”.
My heart goes out to Angela Carini. @iocmedia you need to hang your heads in shame. Imane Khelif is a man. #NoMenInWomensSport#SaveWomensSport pic.twitter.com/v6eEQRFZBf
