PCB Clarifies Covering Expenses of Shaheen Afridi In London Amidst Allegations By Shahid Afridi

“PCB is not doing anything,” Afridi told. “Everything from coordination to doctors to his hotel room and food expenses, he is paying out of his own pocket.”

The PCB announced Pakistan’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022. In a big relief for the fans and the team, Pakistan’s favourite and lethal pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is available for the marquee event. Afridi, currently recovering from an injury had to miss out on the Asia Cup due to the same.

The key seamer suffered a knee injury while attempting a dive in the test match against Sri Lanka, back in July. Consequently, Afridi sat out of Pakistan’s away series against the Netherlands. Soon after, the medical staff released an official statement informing about Afridi’s injury and the resultant absence from Asia Cup.

The medical reports from August; however, affirmed Afridi’s availability for the T20 World Cup. Following that, Afridi travelled with the team to UAE for the Asia Cup. Fans remember his interaction with Virat Kohli. As soon as the India Vs Pakistan opening clash wrapped, Afridi flew out to London to properly tend to his injury and ensure full recovery before the marquee ICC Championship.

Shahid Afridi’s Revelations About Shaheen Afridi and His Injury

In an interaction recently, former Pakistani cricketer and a close aide to Shaheen, Shahid Afridi has made quite a shocking revelation. Afridi alleged that the pacer was paying for all his expenses in London. The expenses covering his stay, food and even medical attendance were paid by Shaheen Afridi out of his own pocket as per Shahid Afridi.

“Shaheen went to England on his own, bought his own ticket, spent his own money to stay in a hotel. I arranged a doctor for him, and then he contacted the doctor. PCB is not doing anything,” Afridi told. “Everything from coordination to doctors to his hotel room and food expenses, he is paying out of his own pocket,” he added.

Following this revelation, another legendary cricketer Wasim Akram came up with an agitated retaliation questioning PCB’s accountability. Akram stated, “This is shocking. He’s (Shaheen) one of our top (cricketers), he’s box office! If we aren’t going to look after him (then who will)? If true, then this is too much. He should have been straightaway sent to the best knee surgeon in the world. But he is dealing with this all alone. As I said, I’m still shocked about it.”

PCB clears its stance on Afridi’s condition

However, in the latest turn of events, the Pakistan Cricket Board has come up with a clarification. The board ensured that it assists every player in situations similar to Afridi’s. And in his case too, the PCB will cover every expense that Shaheen has paid for in London.

“It goes without saying that the PCB has always been and will continue to be responsible for arranging medical care and rehabilitation of all its players requiring any treatment,” said PCB in their statement.

Moreover, they also informed about Fakhar Zaman who’s kept on the standby list for the World Cup due to an apparent injury. “During his stay in London, the PCB will make all relevant logistical arrangements for Fakhar and he will remain under the supervision of the PCB Advisory Panel, which includes Dr Imtiaz Ahmad and Dr Zafar Iqbal, who are also treating Shaheen Shah Afridi,” said PCB.
