In a nail-biting match, U Mumba started their Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 12 campaign with a thrilling tie-breaker win over the Gujarat Giants. Played at the Vishwanadh Sports Club in Vizag on Saturday, the game finished 29-29, before U Mumba won a 7-6 tie-breaker to take the first win of their season.
A Nail-Biting First Half: U Mumba vs Gujarat Giants
Both teams emerged with energy from the first whistle itself. Ajit Chouhan scored for U Mumba first and then Himanshu Singh scored for the Gujarat Giants. Early on, tackles from Shubham Kumar gave Gujarat the momentum, but U Mumba’s defensive structure kicked into gear with Lokesh Ghosliya and Mohammadreza Shadloui making valuable tackles to keep their team in the contest.
Following the initial timeout, U Mumba were just 7-6 ahead. Gujarat Giants quickly stepped up their challenge, however, causing an ALL OUT to U Mumba and going ahead. Himanshu Singh’s double-raid took Gujarat ahead, but U Mumba rallied in the last seconds of the first half. Lokesh Ghosliya’s Super Tackle brought the deficit down to a point, with Gujarat leading 16-15 at halftime.
Resilient U Mumba Fights Back
In the second half, both teams kept fighting hard. Raghav scored the first point of the half for U Mumba, to bring the score level at 16-16, but the Gujarat Giants came back with some solid defence, as well as the first raid point for Mohammadreza Shadloui. Harish Kamatchi was contributing at both ends, and Gujarat built their lead to three points.
U Mumba, though, stayed in striking distance, courtesy some timely defensive work. Ajit Chouhan and Parvesh Bhainswal provided U Mumba the push, with Bhainswal marking his 350th tackle in PKL. U Mumba’s defense, including Super Tackles, kept them in the game, and they eventually had a one-point lead, 29-28.
But just when U Mumba thought it had it in its grip, Himanshu Singh created a Super Raid to take the scores level at 29-29. The match after 40 minutes of tough action was compelled into a second tie-breaker in two days in PKL Season 12.
The Decisive Tie-Breaker
The tie-breaker began with Ajit Chouhan providing U Mumba the edge by scoring a two-point raid, which set the tone for the conclusion of the game. U Mumba’s defense unit dominated from then on, making sure they kept control and came out with a 7-6 tie-breaker victory, securing the nail-biting win.
Major U Mumba Performances
Ajit Chouhan headed the raiding department with five raid points, while Anil Mohan and Rohit Raghav scored four tackle points each. Sunil Kumar delivered in clutch situations, while Sandeep Kumar and Anil Mohan supported strongly on the raiding front. Parvesh Bhainswal became the first-ever PKL player to achieve 350 tackles, which was a key contribution to the defensive work of U Mumba.
