Although Alfredo Di Stefano represented a total of three different national teams, including Argentina, Spain and Colombia, all throughout his football career, the legendary football player still failed miserably to win the FIFA World Cup.

The Italian former professional football player Paolo Maldini is at the fourth spot in our list of top five legendary football players who could never win a World Cup. Widely regarded as one of the best defenders of all-time in the world, Paolo Maldini made his debut for the Italy national team in 1988 and retired in 2002 with a record total of 7 goals and 126 caps. 

Paolo Maldini reached the finals of the FIFA World Cup 1994 with Italy, but lost his golden chance to claim the trophy after Roberto Baggio missed the decisive penalty, leading Brazil to defeat Paolo Madlini’s Italian national team at the World Cup 1994.

Socrates represented Brazil at the FIFA World Cup twice, in 1982 and 1986, and scored a total of 22 goals. Although Socrates adorned yellow for a total of sixty times, unfortunately, the legendary football player entirely failed to lift the most coveted and prestigious trophy – the FIFA World Cup, even once in his football career with Brazil that lasted for seven years.
