‘Please Don’t Get Into F&O…’: MS Dhoni Warns Young Traders

Former captain of the Indian cricket team, MS Dhoni  shared his honest views on futures and options (F&O) trading. At a public event, Dhoni highlighted how important it is to understand the risks involved in trading, comparing them to the risks we face in life. “There are certain types of risks you should take, but it’s best to avoid those you can’t handle if you lose,” he remarked, emphasizing the need to be ready for possible losses.

MS Dhoni Warns Young Traders

Addressing the audience, Dhoni noticed how quickly F&O traders change their feelings about the market. He pointed out that traders often switch their opinions fast, saying, “They flip very quickly. First, they’ll say it’s a buying opportunity, and then the next day, they’ll declare it’s a selling opportunity.”

In his honest advice to young traders, Dhoni was clear: “Please, don’t get into F&O; it will be difficult to exit.” He further added, “If you want that adrenaline rush, there are plenty of other activities you can engage in. Don’t try your luck with F&O; only professionals can handle it.”

MS Dhoni also talked about the tough facts about trading in futures and options (F&O). He noted, “When you log in to any trading app, it tells you that 90 percent of F&O traders lose their money while only 10 percent win. I really want to know who these 10 percent are. These guys are eating our money and becoming rich. That’s why I stopped.” His candid admission highlights the harsh realities of trading, where most people face losses.

On a personal note, Dhoni shared his own preferences for investing in the stock market. He said he avoids buying stocks that are at their highest price. “It is out of my target system,” he explained, showing that he has a specific strategy for investing.

MS Dhoni On His Future With CSK

In the same interview, MS Dhoni also hinted at his possible return for his franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League, stating he wants to enjoy “whatever last few years of cricket” he can, amidst speculations regarding his future with the yellow army.

Questions about Dhoni’s future arose when he handed the CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad and started batting lower in the order. As the October 31 retention deadline nears, his status remains uncertain. With a new rule allowing retired players to be uncapped after five years, CSK might retain him. Now 43, MS Dhoni is focusing on mentoring younger players. “I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I’m able to play. Like how during our childhood, we used to go out and play at 4 pm, just enjoying the game.”

“My thinking was simple, if others are doing their job well, why do I need to come up the order?” MS Dhoni said, explaining his position change last season. “We have to give people fighting for a spot a chance.”
