Premier League Thriller: Foden Sets Record with Hat-Trick in City’s Win

In a record-breaking performance, Phil Foden scores a hat-trick, leading Manchester City to a 3-1 win against Brentford.

Phil Foden scored his second career hat-trick, leading Manchester City to a 3-1 comeback win against Brentford. The victory brought City within two points of the Premier League summit.

Brentford took a surprise lead with Neal Maupay’s goal, but Foden equalized just before half-time. In the second half, Foden secured the win by adding two more goals.

This marks City’s fourth consecutive Premier League away match in which they trailed before clinching all three points. Pep Guardiola’s team has now won nine consecutive matches across all competitions.

With 49 points from 22 Premier League games, City is closely trailing leaders Liverpool, who have 51 points from 23 matches.

In a positive development for City at the start of a busy February, Erling Haaland made his first start in almost two months. Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, and Bernardo Silva also returned to the side.

Despite Brentford taking a surprise lead, City controlled the match from the start. Brentford’s goalkeeper, Mark Flekken, made crucial saves to deny long-range strikes from Julian Alvarez and Kyle Walker.

Although Brentford took the lead in the 21st minute with Maupay’s goal, City continued to dominate. Foden scored his first goal in the first half and added another early in the second half, heading in a cross from Kevin De Bruyne.

Despite Brentford’s efforts to equalize, with Maupay, Toney, and Norgaard going close, they couldn’t find their second goal. Foden completed his hat-trick 20 minutes before the end, sealing the win for Man City in a well-worked move assisted by Haaland.

Foden’s third goal set a record for the most goals in a single Matchweek, with 45 goals scored across the 10 Premier League fixtures over the weekend.
