Prithvi Shaw made quite the statement in his very first game for Maharashtra, smashing a century against Chhattisgarh in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament at Guru Nanak College on Tuesday.
Prithvi Shaw shines on debut for Maharashtra
The 25-year-old opener, who moved from Mumbai earlier this year, reached his hundred in 122 balls. On a tricky pitch where most batters struggled, Shaw held his ground and kept the scoreboard moving.
Prithvi Shaw brought up the milestone in the 44th over with a crisp boundary, raising his bat with a quiet celebration before sharing a warm hug with his partner Siddharth Mhatre. His knock featured 14 boundaries and a six, and it stood out for its patience and focus as he dealt smartly with the uneven bounce and turn.

Why this century matters for Prithvi Shaw
Interestingly, Shaw’s ton came just a day after his former Mumbai teammate Sarfaraz Khan also scored a fighting hundred for Mumbai against TNCA XI in the same tournament.
Despite Prithvi Shaw’s effort, Maharashtra had their troubles. They got off to a solid start at 71 for no loss, but then quickly lost four wickets for just 15 runs. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad fell early for only 1, which left Shaw to do most of the heavy lifting. By the end of two sessions, he had scored more than three-quarters of his team’s runs.
For Prithvi Shaw, this hundred means a lot more than just numbers. Once considered one of India’s brightest young talents, he was left out of Mumbai’s Ranji squad last season and last featured for them in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 back in December 2024.
After going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction and facing criticism over his form and fitness, Shaw decided to make the move to Maharashtra, hoping for a fresh start and more regular chances to prove himself.
Earlier in the match, Chhattisgarh had put up 252 runs on Day 1, powered by Sanjeet Desai’s 93 and Avnish Singh Dhaliwal’s 52.
