T20 World Cup 2024: Men and Women Teams Get Equal Prize Money

This significant hike ensures that the champions of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will take home a whopping $2.34 million, which is a steep 134% increase from the $1 million awarded to the champions, Australia, in 2023.

It is also noteworthy that, ICC has announced prize money for women equal to that of men in their tournament early this year. 

The other finalists will also get more of the pie from a 134% rise as they will walk away with $1.17 million in the upcoming edition. The semi-finalists will be rewarded $675,000 each, more than thrice of the payout the previous edition.

The prize money moves beyond the knockout stages, as each group stage win will now give the team a reward of $31,154, implying a 78% increase from last year’s $17,500.

Additionally, teams that exit during the group stage will too have a finger on the pie. ICC has announced a base prize of $112,500 to be awarded to all 10 participating teams, amounting to $1.125 million. This ensures that every team will be rewarded for their participation, no matter which position they finish.

Teams finishing fifth to eighth will receive $270,000 each, and teams finishing ninth and 10th will take home $135,000 each. This is part of ICC’s effort to support women’s cricket and ensure their recognition. 

This historic prize rewards not only aligns with the ICC’s vision for parity between the men’s and women’s games but also further elevates the status of the Women’s T20 World Cup as one of the premier events in the calendar.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will go underway on  October 3 with the final being held on October 20. The much-awaited ninth edition of the tournament will take place across the two venues in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – Sharjah and Dubai. 

It would be worth mentioning that the hike in the prize money will definitely boost the morale of the women’s cricketers as the best teams of the world battle it out for the coveted title and record-breaking rewards.
