The 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season kicked off on 11 April 2025 in Rawalpindi with the defending champions Islamabad United fearlessly taking over Lahore Qalandars and is scheduled to witness its final showdown on 18 May 2025. Established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) back in 2015, the Pakistan Super League (PSL), also sometimes referred to as HBL PSL for sponsorship reasons, consists of six teams, including Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators.

As per the rules and regulations drafted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), each team plays the group stage matches in a double round-robin format and the top four teams with the most points qualify for the playoffs, culminating in the final. The current champions Islamabad United are undoubtedly eyeing the coveted PSL title for the fourth time in the ongoing PSL 2025 season.

Often hailed as Pakistan’s most potential bowling all-rounder, Shadab Khan has been appointed as the skipper of the Islamabad United squad for the seventh consecutive time in the ongoing PSL 2025 season. Under Shadab Khan’s leadership, the Islamabad United squad clinched their third title in the PSL 2024 season, making them the most successful team in the history of Pakistan Super League so far.

In addition to being the skipper of the PSL’s Islamabad United squad, Shadab Khan has also been a member of the Pakistan cricket team that clinched the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. As of now, Shadab Khan has successfully played a total of 57 PSL matches with the Islamabad United team and is all geared up to lead the squad to their fourth PSL title this season. According to the reports, Shadab Khan is receiving a whopping salary of INR 1.88 Crore for being the captain of the Islamabad United squad in the ongoing PSL 2025 edition.

Pakistani international cricketer and the current captain of the Multan Sultans team, Mohammad Rizwan, is often hailed as one of the most successful and fearless players in the history of the Pakistan Super League. Mohammad Rizwan was appointed as the captain of the Multan Sultans in 2021 and right in his debut season with the team, he created a strong impact and led the Multan Sultans to a phenomenal victory in the Pakistan Super League 2021 season.

Mohammad Rizwan has continued to be the skipper of the squad ever since. According to the reports Rizwan has been acquired by the Multan Sultans franchise for a staggering INR 1.88 Crore for the PSL 2025 season. In addition to his successful PSL exploits, Mohammad Rizwan also holds the record for most runs in T20 Internationals in a calendar year with 1326 runs in 26 innings at an average of 73.66.

  • Babar Azam, Peshawar Zalmi – INR 1.88 Crore

Former captain of Pakistan’s national cricket team across all three formats, Babar Azam, has been re-appointed as the captain of the Peshawar Zalmi squad for the third time in a row. Often hailed as one of the greatest and most reliable run-scorers in Pakistan’s national cricket team, Babar Azam has played a total of 22 matches for the Peshawar Zalmi team and has scored a phenomenal total of 1,091 runs for the squad at a phenomenal average of 54.55 and a strike rate of 143.93.

Babar Azam was officially signed by the Peshawar Zalmi franchise for a whopping INR 1.88 Crore for the ongoing PSL 2025 edition. So far, the current skipper of the Peshawar Zalmi team has smashed a century and five half-centuries. Babar Azam scored his maiden century with the Peshawar Zalmi team against Quetta Gladiators with an unbeaten 115 runs off 65 deliveries.

  • Shaheen Afridi, Lahore Qalandars – INR 1.88 Crore

Former captain of Pakistan’s national cricket team, Shaheen Afridi, made his Pakistan Super League debut with the Lahore Qalandars team in the PSL 2018 edition and, ever since, has been a mainstay for the squad. Owing to his ground-breaking performances for Pakistan’s national cricket team, Shaheen Afridi was appointed as the captain of the Lahore Qalandars team ahead of the PSL 2022 season.

Shaheen Afridi was acquired by the Lahore Qalandars for a whopping INR 1.88 Crore for the ongoing tenth edition of the Pakistan Super League. As of now, Shaheen Afridi has played a total of 71 matches for the Lahore Qalandars team in the Pakistan Super League and has amassed a record total of 328 runs at a phenomenal batting average stands at 12.61 and with a strike rate of 140.77, including two half-tons.

  • Saud Shakeel, Quetta Gladiators – INR 1.24 Crore

Pakistani international cricketer who is the current vice-captain of Pakistan’s national cricket team, Saud Shakeel, made his much-decorated Pakistan Super League debut in the PSL 2024 edition for the Quetta Gladiators against Peshawar Zalmi and created an instant impact with his spine-chilling knock of 74 runs off just 47 deliveries.

Owing to his dominant performances throughout the PSL 2024 edition wherein he concluded as the seventh highest run-scorer of the tournament with a total of 323 runs in 19 matches, Saud Shakeel was appointed as the skipper of the Quetta Gladiators ahead of the PSL 2025 edition with a whopping salary of INR 1.24 Crore. The Quetta Gladiators franchise announced Shakeel’s captaincy on their official social media platforms and introduced him as “the new commander of the Gladiators”.

  • David Warner, Karachi Kings – INR 2.57 Crore

The Australian former international cricketer, David Warner, is currently the only overseas captain in the ongoing PSL 2025 season, speaking volumes about his path-breaking dominance in the league. David Warner was acquired by the Karachi Kings franchise as their first pick in the Platinum category during the PSL 10 Player Draft held in Lahore for a staggering INR 2.57 Crore making him the most expensive player of the PSL 2025 edition.

Just a few days later after onboarding David Warner, the franchise announced him as the captain for the ongoing PSL 2025 season, replacing Shan Masood who led the team in the previous edition of the Pakistan Super League. With his successful stints in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), David Warner is anticipated to come through as one of the most worthy captains for the Karachi Kings.
