BWF World Tour Finals 2024: Qualification Criteria, Players Who Have Qualified
The China Masters 2024 (Super 750) will be the final tournament for qualification into BWF World Tour Finals 2024 in Hangzhou.
The BWF World Tour Finals 2024 is the seventh edition of the BWF World Tour, a circuit of 31 tournaments that lead up to the year-ending finale. This year’s final is scheduled in Hangzhou from December 11-15, and will offer a prize money of $2.5 million.
Qualification criteria for BWF World Tour Finals 2024
The top eight players or pairs in each category will automatically qualify based on the BWF World Tour rankings. However, not more than two players/pairs from each country or association in each category can qualify for the season-end finals.
The World Tour Rankings are based on the results of the tournaments held in the season. These are divided into five levels: Level 1 – BWF World Tour Finals, Level 2 – Super 1000 (4 tournaments), Level 3 – Super 750 (6 tournaments), Level 4 – Super 500 (9 tournaments) and Level 5 – Super 300 (11 tournaments). Each of these tournaments offers different ranking points and prize money. The highest points and prize pool are offered at the Super 1000 level, including the World Tour Finals.
Unlike the previous edition, where reigning world champions were granted a place in the finals, this year, reigning Olympic title winners automatically qualify for the tournament. As a result, players such as Viktor Axelsen, as well as pairs like Lee Yang/Wang Chi-lin, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan, and Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong, have already qualified even if they fail to meet the qualification criteria of being in the top 8 in the rankings.
If players hold the same ranking, the selection will depend on the number of BWF World Tour tournaments they have participated in, and the points earned in those tournaments from July 1 of that year onward.
