European football is involved in another racism issue after a Spanish top-level match saw players boycotting the game and walking off the pitch.
Valencia was advised by coordinators to continue playing the La Liga match at Cadiz on Sunday, or they would lose the points after Mouctar Diakhaby grumbled that he had been racially mishandled, by Cadiz Centre Back Juan Cala.
Valencia’s players strolled off the field in the 29th minute after Frenchman Diakhaby responded angrily following a quarrel with Cadiz’s Spanish place back Juan Cala.
It was the first time a La Liga match had been halted following an accusation of racism.
The players, in the end, got back to the pitch however did as such without Diakhaby, who said he was not in the correct perspective to keep playing and was subbed.
Diakhaby was additionally shown a yellow card before the Valencia players left the pitch for contending with Cala.
Cadiz coach Cervera said he took Cala off at halftime because he had already received a yellow card and did not want to risk him getting sent off, adding he believed his player’s denial.
La Liga did not respond to a request for comment on Gaya’s statements.
Valencia coach Javi Gracia said Diakhaby had been “seriously insulted and was quite shaken”.
