Rafael Nadal, one of the greatest tennis legends, who recently bid adieu to the professional sport, is set to take up a new role.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion is set to join Spain’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) Assembly as an athletes’ representative.
His appointment was confirmed following the re-election of Alejandro Blanco as president of the Spanish NOC.
The Spanish Olympic Committee is responsible for Spain’s participation in the Olympic Games. Members of the committee are 35 sports federations, which elect the Executive Council composed of the president and 23 members.
The Spanish Olympic Committee was founded on November 23, 1912, and refounded on January 11, 1924, in Barcelona.
Rafael Nadal will be part of the Assembly alongside canoeing national team coach Miguel García. Other Olympic medallists continue as Assembly members, including Olympic champions Ruth Beitia, David Cal and Joan Llaneras.
The Spaniard retired from professional tennis in 2024, following his participation at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and the Davis Cup final.
Over more than two decades, Nadal won two Olympic gold medals (singles in Beijing 2008 and doubles in Rio 2016), and won 103 ATP titles (92 in singles, 11 in doubles), including 22 Grand Slam.
His legacy as the “King of Clay” is unmatched, with 14 French Open titles, 112 match wins, and only four losses. He also had the honour of participating in the Torch Relay during the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, along with other legendary athletes.

In December 2004, Nadal became the youngest player to win a singles game in the final of the Davis Cup at 18 years. Another win at the same tournament would be a perfect way to bow out of the sport he loved.
In 2010, Nadal won the French Open and Wimbledon titles, and beat Noval Djokovic to lift his first US Open crown. With three of the four Grand Slams and an Olympic gold at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he secured a ‘Career Golden Slam.’
