Real Madrid wins huge on the reopening of Santiago Bernabeu

Los Blancos won 5-2 against Celta Vigo thanks to a Karim Benzema hattrick.

Real Madrid won 5-2 against Celta Vigo on the night of the reopening of the Santiago Bernabeu. Karim Benzema scored a hattrick and goals from Camavinga and Vinicius Junior added gloss to the scoreline.

Surprisingly, Celta Vigo opened the scoring in the 4th minute of the game. Striker Santi Mina scored his team’s first goal. However, Karim Benzema leveled the scoring with a superb strike inside the penalty area.

Celta Vigo again surprised the home team by taking the lead in the 31st minute of the game. Franco Cervi score the goal after a neat heel flick came off the post right back to him to poke the ball into the net.

Real Madrid clawed their way back into the game once again as Benzema scored a thumping header thanks to a beautiful cross from left-back Gutierrez.

Second Half

In the second half of the game, Vinicius Junior scored Madrid’s third goal to take his side into the lead. Vinicius was released behind the defense by Benzema. The Brazilian winger dribbled all the way into the box and placed the ball neatly into the net. The youngster often criticized for his lack of productivity seems to have found his rhythm under Ancelotti.

Vinicius after scoring the goal, celebrated by jumping into the fans section. Consequently, he was booked by the referee for his action, as he broke COVID protocol.

In the 72nd minute new signing, Eduardo Camavinga scored Madrid’s fourth and opened his account for the club. Later in the game, in the 87th minute, Benzema scored Madrid’s fifth of the night and completed his hattrick. The Los Blancos won in an emphatic manner fitting the occasion of the reopening of their stadium. Real had not played in Santiago Bernabeu since the El Clasico in March of 2020.

Real Madrid won their third match of the campaign and they lead the table with 10 points to their name from the first four matches. Meanwhile, they have a three-point lead over their rivals Barcelona who are on seven points. Although, admittedly Barcelona has played one game less than Real Madrid as their game got suspended.
