Explained: Will Rishab Pant Play White-Ball Series vs Australia?

5 Min Read

India’s prized wicketkeeper-batter Rishab Pant has arrived back home after a short stay in England, where he had been undergoing medical assessment for a broken foot he suffered during the just-concluded Test series against England. According to the latest information, Pant is now scheduled to resume his rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.

Rishab Pant Meets Experts in Mumbai Following Injury in England

Pant came to Mumbai a few days back from England and consulted a panel of doctors the moment he arrived to evaluate the healing of his right foot fracture suffered during the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at Manchester on July 23. He was struck by a delivery from Chris Woakes while on 37 and had to be retired hurt.

Although he came out to bat the following day fightingly making vital runs and reaching a half-century (54) the injury kept him out of the last Test at The Oval, which India won to square the series.

Rehabilitation Timeline and Comeback Targets

As per sources in the team management, the timeline provided by doctors indicates that Pant might target his return in India’s home series against the West Indies in October. But if that is too early, the more likely target seems to be the White-ball series vs Australia, which is in October-November 2025.

This window is being seen as a good chance for Pant to make a comeback to international cricket particularly with big tournaments on the horizon.

Strapping Still On, Recovery Progressing

Pant’s foot is said to remain strapped, which shows that healing is in process. Yet, the Mumbai evaluation has been good enough for doctors to give him the go-ahead for the next stage of his rehabilitation at Bengaluru’s CoE. The BCCI medical team will monitor his progress in the coming weeks closely.

Rishab Pant Posts Inspirational Update on Social Media

True to his fighting spirit, Rishab Pant posted an inspiring post on social media, looking back at his body and mind journey:

Simply wanna tell you one thing which I know is it does not matter how much you suffered in the past, if you get harmed once again it hurts the same for sure. Keep believing in yourself and keep working towards the way you want to live your life because what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger at some point.

Pant’s post, which was full of introspection and hope, has struck a chord with followers who have been observing his inspiring saga from a near-death experience in 2022 to his several comebacks on the pitch.

A Career Ultimately Defined by Comebacks

This isn’t the first time the 27-year-old has faced adversity. In 2022, Pant lived through a brush with death, in a motor vehicle accident that required major knee surgery and a hiatus of more than one year.

He suffered from a finger issue in the England series earlier this year while he was playing in the third Test at Lord’s, which made it difficult for him to keep wickets temporarily. Regardless, even when you take all of these into account, Pant has always demonstrated toughness, drive, and a passion for the game.

Eyes on the Prize: White-Ball Series vs Australia Could Be His Stage

With the White-ball series against Australia drawing near, Indian team management as well as the fans are eagerly awaiting a strong comeback of Rishab Pant. His availability in the middle order and his aggressive brand of cricket could be determining as India gathers momentum in preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

If accommodated within schedule, Pant’s addition would really strengthen India’s team in the limited-overs series that forms an important build-up to future ICC tournaments.
