Former Mumbai Indians captain, Rohit Sharma has managed to score only 56 runs in the first five matches of IPL 2025. Rohit Sharma continued his poor form in IPL 2025 with another disappointing performance against Delhi Capitals on Sunday.
Rohit Sharma’s Struggles Continue in IPL 2025
Playing on a good batting pitch, Rohit and Ryan Rickelton tried to take advantage of the conditions after MI were asked to bat first. Rohit started well, hitting Mitchell Starc for two fours and a six early on, showing signs of getting back in form.
However, he couldn’t carry on and was dismissed while trying to balance aggression with caution. His struggles with the bat have now led to an unwanted record in the tournament.
Rohit Sharma’s poor form continued in the match against Delhi Capitals. He tried to sweep but missed the ball and was out LBW for 18 runs off 12 balls.
Since IPL 2023, Rohit has averaged just 24.39 in 25+ innings — the second-lowest among openers. Only Wriddhiman Saha has a lower average of 20.28. In IPL 2025 so far, Rohit has scored just 56 runs at an average of 11.20.
After Rohit got out early, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma steadied the innings. They played sensibly, rotated strikes, and attacked when needed. The pair added 50 runs in just 29 balls.
After their dismissals, Naman Dhir played a brilliant cameo, scoring an unbeaten 38 off 17 balls to help Mumbai Indians post a strong total of 205/5.
With every match, it becomes more evident that the 10 IPL titles won by Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni were not fluke.

Hardik Pandya Hails Team Efforts
At the post-match presentation, Hardik Pandya admitted that Karun Nair’s batting caused real concern for the Mumbai Indians camp. He said:
“Winning is always special, especially wins like this. He (Karun) was batting brilliantly, it seemed like it was going out of hand.”
Hardik also praised Karn Sharma for his outstanding performance, which earned him the Player of the Match award. He added:
“(On Karn Sharma) Shows great character, to be brave and toss it up when the boundaries are just 60m long.”
Hardik Pandya also praised his teammates for their effort and determination during the match. He said:
“We never gave up, we kept saying we want to stay in the contest. Everyone put their hand up and we were able to hold on to our chances.”
He also spoke about the team’s batting order and shared what was discussed during the tense final overs. He said:
“(On the batting order) Wanted to get the players in form to face the most balls. Dew played a big factor later on, it got very dewy. Just by making sure the game is not over, “keep fighting” was the chatter. We knew a couple of wickets would change the game. It has happened with me before as well, wins like this change the momentum and turn everything around.”
