Several reports had suggested that Rohit Sharma would miss the first Test against Australia in Perth, as the birth of his second child was expected to coincide with the series opener of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
With the first Test against Australia still a week away and Rohit Sharma recently welcoming his second child, reports suggest his chances of joining the team in time for the match look very good. The Test is scheduled to begin on 22nd November.
If Rohit Sharma is available for the first Test, it would be a huge boost for the Indian team. His presence would strengthen the leadership and provide valuable experience in a side filled with younger players, raising the team’s morale and confidence.
Although Rohit Sharma hasn’t been in the best form recently, his availability for the team will be vital for India’s chances. His skill and leadership qualities give the Indian team a strong chance to win the first Test in Perth.
Earlier, Gautam Gambhir suggested that in Rohit Sharma’s absence, either KL Rahul or Abhimanyu Easwaran would open the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both players had featured in the A series against Australia A but struggled to make an impact.
The Indian team has been undergoing match simulations at the WACA Stadium in Perth. During one session, KL Rahul opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rahul batted for a few overs before being struck on the body by a rising delivery from pacer Prasidh Krishna. After receiving on-field treatment, Rahul walked off, but the injury is not believed to be serious.
