SA vs PAK: Kapp, Brits Drive South Africa Women To A Win In ODI Series Opener

4 Min Read

SA vs PAK: South Africa Women gets win in the first ODI match of the series against Pakistan Women, chasing 256 with total ease as Marizanne Kapp and Tazmin Brits blasted unbeaten centuries. The record-breaking partnership of the duo guided South Africa Women to a comprehensive 8-wicket victory in the first ODI of the SA vs PAK series in Lahore.

Early Trouble for South Africa Women, But Kapp and Brits Deliver

Pursuing 256, South Africa were stuttering at 43/2 after losing Laura Wolvaardt (2nd over) and Sune Luus (10th over). But then came a historic turnaround.

Marizanne Kapp (121* off 130)

Tazmin Brits (101* off 129)

Together, they built a 216-run unconquered third-wicket alliance, the third largest in South Africa Women’s ODI history, leading their team home with 10 balls to spare.

Dominant Partnership: 22 Fours and 2 Sixes Overpower Pakistan Bowlers

The Kapp-Brits pair tore Pakistan’s bowling apart with authority, hitting 22 fours and two sixes between them. Though the breakthrough was initially achieved by Sadia Iqbal and Rameen Shamim, Pakistan’s attack lost steam:

Fatima Sana: 10-0-59-0

Nashra Sandhu: 10-0-61-0

Diana Baig: 8-0-56-0

Rameen Shamim: Best of the lot, 1 for 29 in 10 overs

Their regular line and length couldn’t discomfit the calm batting of the South African pair.

Pakistan Women Post 255/4 with Sidra Amin’s Century

Earlier today, Pakistan Women posted a fighting 255/4 in 50 overs. The innings was well-firmed by Sidra Amin, who was left on 121 off 148 balls, her third ODI century.

She combined with Muneeba Ali, who scored a smooth 76 in a 147-run second-wicket stand. Even with that strong platform, Pakistan was not able to pick up the pace in the death overs.

Aliya Riaz: Made 33 (34) before being victim to a key run-out in the 44th over

Natalia Pervaiz: Managed only 5 runs from 14 balls, hindering the finish

Key Bowling Performances: Khaka and Kapp Keep Pakistan in Check

South African bowlers kept Pakistan under control, particularly in the last 10 overs.

Ayabonga Khaka: 2/36 (9 overs) – key initial breakthroughs

Tumi Sekhukhune: 1/37 (9 overs)

Marizanne Kapp: 0/20 (7 overs) – stingy economy of 2.85 per over

Their disciplined performance kept Pakistan from being able to fully capitalize on the platform set by their top-order.
