SAFF Championship 2023: Schedule, Streaming, More Details
The SAFF Championship will kick off tomorrow as arch-rivals India and Pakistan will face off on the opening day. Here are the details of the tournament.
The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship is a football tournament that is held every two years. There are seven teams in the SAFF Championship. These teams are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. India is the most successful team in the tournament having won the Championship for a record 8 times. There have been 13 editions of the tournament so far, Maldives have won it twice while Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have won it once. Notably, Afghanistan joined the SAFF in 2005 but then left in 2015 to found Central Asian Football Association (CAFA).
SAFF Championship 2023
SAFF Championship 2023 will kick off tomorrow, the 21st of June in the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore, India. The Indian football team comes into this SAFF Championship after a great win in the Hero Intercontinental Cup. This edition will have 8 teams participating in the tournament. Sri Lanka was sanctioned by FIFA in January 2023 which made them ineligible for participating in the competition. Kuwait and Lebanon will be playing for the first time in the competition.
