The Southeast Asia Games (SEA Games) 2025 will take place from 9-20 December in Thailand. This is the 33rd edition of the multi-sport event. The competition returns to the location of the very first regional Games in 1959, as the Thai capital of Bangkok plays host together with the Chonburi region.
A total of 11 Southeast Asian nations will compete at the 2025 edition: hosts Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Brunei Darussalam, and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
In SEA Games 2025, 12,506 athletes will compete across 50 medal sports, ranging from Olympic disciplines to traditional regional sports. Among them are Olympic champions, from Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo of the Philippines to Indonesia’s Rizki Juniansyah.
Elsewhere, 2021 world badminton men’s singles champion Loh Kean Yew has another shot at a first career SEA Games gold, while Alexandra Eala (Philippines) headlines the women’s tennis competition. Singaporean swimmer Quah Ting Wen looks to break the record for the most SEA Games gold medals of all time, currently held by Joscelin Yeo.
SEA Games 2025: Schedule
Competition began on December 3 with men’s football and polo, ahead of the Opening Ceremony at the Rajamangala National Stadium on 9 December.
Badminton, baseball, flying disc, handball, and hockey 5s are the other sports that get underway before the Opening Ceremony. The Closing Ceremony will also take place at the same stadium on 20 December.

The Southeast Asian Games is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia. The games are under the regulation of the Southeast Asian Games Federation with supervision by the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia.
The SEA Games is one of the five subregional Games of the Olympic Council of Asia, the others being South Asian Games, West Asian Games, East Asian Games, and Central Asian Games.
