Serena Williams on Investing in Women’s Sports
Through her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures, Serena Williams has invested in various companies, including 16 unicorns. In an April interview with CNN, the 42-year-old expressed her interest in investing in a WNBA team. She believes women’s sports are just as thrilling as men’s sports, making them a great investment opportunity.
“I absolutely would be interested,” Williams said. “With the right market, I would definitely be super interested in that. There is no risk. Women’s sport is exciting; women are exciting to watch. What’s the difference? I think even more people watched the college women’s basketball than the men’s. So I think people are realizing it is exciting to watch.”
Serena Williams has also consistently supported young female athletes. Her husband, Alexis Ohanian, shares her passion for promoting women’s sports. As the co-founder of Reddit and a successful entrepreneur, Ohanian is the largest shareholder of the National Women’s Soccer League team, Angel City.
Williams and Ohanian met in 2015 and tied the knot two years later. They have two daughters, Olympia, who is seven, and Adira, who is one.
