Shikhar Dhawan hits 50 fifty plus score in the IPL

Shikhar Dhawan scored a match-winning knock of 86 runs. He managed to hit his first fifty as the PBKS captain and 50th fifty plus score in the IPL.

Punjab Kings emerged victorious over a strong Rajasthan Royals team. Yesterday, Shikhar Dhawan led from the front as he scored a great captain’s knock. Dhawan’s unbeaten knock of 86 runs ensured that the Punjab team reached a score close to 200. Dhawan in the process of his knock managed to score his first fifty while being the man in charge of the PBKS team. The knock was even more special as he made it into the list of 50 fifty plus scores in the IPL.

Shikhar Dhawan’s Knock

Dhawan scored an unbeaten 86 runs in just 56 balls. He started the innings playing the role of an anchor, as at the end of the powerplay he had only scored 14 runs off 13 balls while his partner, Prabhsimran Singh at the other end was taking advantage of the restrictions in powerplay.

Dhawan started to show signs of accelerating in the 12th over as he hit Yuzvendra Chahal for a six. The PBKS captain scored his special 50th fifty plus score in the 14th over as he smashed Chahal for back to back fours. His fifty came in 36 balls. Dhawan put his foot on the acceleration pedal as at one stage he had scored 26 runs in 8 balls he faced.

50 Fifty plus score

David Warner leads the list of having the most fifty plus scores. Warner has 60 fifty plus scores to his name. The southpaw opener is also leading the Delhi Capitals side in the absence of Rishabh Pant. The hard hitting Australian has 56 fifties to his name as well as four hundreds. Warner over the years has been very successful in the IPL while playing for the SunRisers Hyderabad in the past and now for DC.

Virat Kohli too joined the list of 50 fifty plus scores in the ongoing IPL season. In the fifth match of IPL 2023 Royal Challengers Bangalore hosted five time champions Mumbai Indians. Kohli scored an unbeaten 82 in just 49 balls to see his team to the victory. Kohli has 45 fifties and 5 hundred in the IPL.

Shikhar Dhawan is the latest entrant on this list as he now has 48 fifties in addition to his 2 hundreds.

Who else could join this list?

AB de Villiers was the closest to reaching 50 fifty plus scores in the IPL before he retired. Next on the list is Rohit Sharma with 40 fifties and 1 hundred. Sharma will be needing 9 fifty plus scores to reach the milestone. Given his recent form it will take a miraculous effort to make it into the list. Rohit is followed by Suresh Raina (40), Chris Gayle (37), Gautam Gambhir (36), KL Rahul (35).
