Shreyasi Singh who is an Indian Trap Shooter and an MLA from Bihar’s Jamui has qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 scheduled to start from July 26. Shreyasi Singh is the first athlete from Bihar to represent India in the Olympics as she will take part in the women’s Shotgun trap shooting event.

The Reaction
Reacting to the chance to represent India in the biggest multisporting event in the world Shreyasi Singh said “It is really a matter of happiness and feels very good. Qualifying for the Olympic Games is a matter of pride for any athlete and I am looking forward to giving my 100 percent at the Paris Games and making the country proud.”
Initial Days
Shreyasi Singh was encouraged by her grandfather to take up the sport of shooting and was trained by former Olympian Mansher Singh. It was right after her 10th-grade exams that Shreyasi started training hard and was inspired and encouraged by Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore. She also got a lot of encouragement and support from the authorities while pursuing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Arts and MBA.
The Difficult Phase
As things started to look brighter for Shreyasi she suffered one of the biggest losses of her life when her father passed away. It was a difficult period for Shreyasi as she was finding it hard to focus on the sport. But she gained courage and picked herself up by making a roaring comeback which involved tweaking her technique in order to get better results.

The Achievements
Shreyasi Singh won the Yellow Medal in the National Shooting Championship in 2012 which was followed by a 15th-position finish in the Trap Shooting World Cup in 2013 held in Mexico. She also won a Bronze medal in the Double Trap event at the 2014 Asian Games. In 2017 Shreyasi bagged Silver Medal in the Commonwealth Shooting Championship.
The Moment
Shreysi Singh’s movement in the sun was yet to arrive as she won the Gold Medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia.
Reacting after her Gold Medal win Shreyasi Singh said to PTI “I was definitely nervous but at the same time confident. Does that make sense? Actually, I was prepared for a fight, I was not going to give up no matter what. I would have fought until whatever time it was necessary to get this medal. If you ask me what I feel right now, it is pure happiness.”
“This is the highest medal of my career, right up there. It is also very special because shooting is not going to be a part of the Commonwealth Games in 2022,” Singh told NDTV in an interview after her win.

The Failures
Singh also participated in the 2010 and 2014 editions of the Commonwealth Games but had a disappointing outing in 2010 finishing sixth and seventh in the trap and pair trap event respectively.
The Journey
Talking about Shreyasi Singh’s journey her sister Mansi said “She took up shooting in 2006 and forayed into professional trapshooting from 2007, after which she won a gold medal in the junior single trap event in the national shooting competition in 2008. Shreyasi is currently ranked 18 in the world ranking in women’s trap.”
