T20 World Cup 2024: South Africa Clinch Victory Over England in Super 8 Match

In the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match between England and South Africa, key batsmen Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Moeen Ali, and Jonny Bairstow were all bowled easily, which caused England’s chase to collapse early and leave them down 61-4 in the match against Sri Lanka.

T20 World Cup 2024 Update: Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa, stood up for Ottniel Baartman after the pacer gave up 21 runs to England. However, the Proteas maintained composure to win the Super 8 match by seven runs, continuing their unbeaten streak in the T20 World Cup 2024. With 25 needed off 18 balls, Harry Brook (53), and Liam Livingstone (33 off 17 balls) had England’s chase well under control. However, in the final three overs, fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje removed them. In response to South Africa’s 163 for 6, England could only muster 156 for 6.

After the game, Markram was upbeat about his team’s development. “Overall, I think we’re coming closer to that whole cricket match. At the post-match award ceremony, he said, “We’re not there just yet, but we’re getting there.” Leading bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj’s South African team produced a disciplined performance to limit England. David Miller and Quinton de Kock both made significant runs, establishing a competitive goal that saw the game through to the very end.

Key batsmen Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Moeen Ali, and Jonny Bairstow were all bowled easily, which caused England’s chase to collapse early and leave them down 61-4. But things took a sharp turn when South African seamer Ottneil Baartmann let up 21 runs in five full tosses in the 17th over. With this run, England looked hopeful, needing just 25 runs from the last eighteen balls.

“[After Baartmann’s over in the 17th, he changed his strategy and headed for the 21st] It’s never easy to do. You want to witness the bowler at peak performance. Prior to altering the circumstances, you should allow him to bowl his finest ball. That last few overs there was a little nerve-wracking. The plans were in place, but they weren’t completely carried out as intended. It occurs,” Markram remarked, endorsing Baartmann’s performance.

In this T20 World Cup, Kagiso Rabada’s accurate bowling resulted in Liam Livingstone’s removal in the 18th over, which turned the tide back in South Africa’s favor. Equally effective was Marco Jansen’s penultimate over, in which he refused to give up a boundary, giving England a difficult task in the final over. At the beginning of the final over, Markram produced a breathtaking grab to dismiss Harry Brook, which proved to be the game-winning moment. “Thank goodness it stuck! You find yourself floating in the field while your mind runs like a captain, content to cling to it. It undoubtedly had an impact, according to Markram.

Sam Curran’s decision to decline a single in the final moments in an attempt to hit a six, when England desperately needed a miracle, decided their fate. In the end, South Africa’s disciplined bowling and athletic fielding won a closely contested match. This was the 6th consecutive win of South Africa in T20 World Cup 2024.
