Skeleton World Cup 2024-25: Top Favourites In St. Moritz

The 2024-25 IBSF Skeleton World Cup 2024-25 makes a stop in St. Moritz, Switzerland for its sixth event of the season. The actions in the Swiss ice will take place on Friday (10 January).

The competition in St. Moritz will be crucial in deciding the 2024-25 Skeleton World Cup champions. Here are five athletes to keep an eye on:

Matt Weston (Great Britain)

Matt Weston took the first place in the men’s competition last week in Wintenberg finishing on the top of the podium by 0.62 seconds ahead of Austria’s Samuel Maier.

The 27-year-old now ranks first with 1255 points, moving past his British team-mate Marcus Wyatt with a difference of 58 points. 

The win propelled Weston ahead of British team-mate Marcus Wyatt into first place with 1255 points, 58 ahead of his compatriot.

With six podium finishes in as much events this season so far, Weston, the reigning World Cup champion is in a red-hot form to defend his crown. 

Marcus Wyatt (Great Britain)

An eighth-place finish in Winterberg last week has seen Marcus Wyatt drop into second place, just a week after he became the leader in men’s overall points with victory in Sigulda.

The 2024 European champion will be racing to finish ahead of his Weston and reach the podium into order to keep his hopes alive for the crystal ball. 

Janine Flock (Austria)

Janine Flock clinched her first race of the season in Winterberg last week, setting a record for most World Cup podium finishes (40). She also claimed the maximum 225 points on offer and ranks second in the standings. 

Flock, 35, will be looking to book the first place overall claim to her first Crystal globe since 2021 and the third of her career.

Hannah Neise (Germany)

Hannah Neise notched up four podium finishes this season, showing consistency. However, the 2023 Crystal Globe winner and also the reigning Olympic champion, is yet to win a race and St. Moritz could be the place. 

Neise leads the overall standings as of now and its remains to be seen if odds are in her favour.
