Soumya Sarkar Back In Bangladesh Squad For T20I Series Bangladesh vs Afghanistan

3 Min Read

There has been a major decision before Bangladesh’s forthcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, where Soumya Sarkar has been brought back into the Bangladesh squad. Top regular captain Litton Das has been ruled out of the series because of a side strain, with Jaker Ali set to carry on as the stand-in skipper.

Injury Update on Litton Das

Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam has reported that Litton Das has a grade 1 strain in his left abdominal muscle. He did not play the last two Asia Cup matches and has now been ruled out of the T20I series against Afghanistan. His condition is being monitored closely by the medical team, but no return date is fixed yet.

“He is recovering and will not be fit for the T20 series,” said Bayjedul Islam. “The rehab will be taken care of by the medical team and his progress monitored.”

Soumya Sarkar Comes Back

32-year-old Soumya Sarkar returns to the T20I setup after missing earlier series against UAE and Pakistan due to injury. He last represented Bangladesh in a T20I in the West Indies in December 2024. His return adds experience and depth to the Bangladesh squad.

Captaincy Role for Jaker Ali

Jaker Ali, the team captain in the previous two Asia Cup matches against Pakistan and India, will be captaining Bangladesh again. His form, though, is a cause for concern with him having single-digit scores in his previous three games. In spite of the pressure, the team administration has supported him in captaining the team in this critical series.
