In a major boost for global cricket, Sourav Ganguly reappointed Chairperson of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee. The former Indian captain and former BCCI president is back at the global cricketing association in a top leadership position for the second time.
Sourav Ganguly Reappointed to Important ICC Position
Ganguly, who held the same role in 2021, will again lead the powerful panel. He will replace Anil Kumble, who resigned after serving his three-year term.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) made this decision in an attempt to reintroduce experienced voices into the decision-making circle regarding the game’s future.
Ganguly’s Tenure and Cricketing Legacy
Sourav Ganguly was BCCI president from October 23, 2019, until October 18, 2022, and was the 35th president of the board. He was followed in office by Roger Binny as the new 36th president.
Before his administrative role, Ganguly was captain of India from 2000 to 2005 and was famous for constructing a fearless and competitive Indian cricket team.

Women’s Cricket Committee Also Improved
The ICC Women’s Cricket Committee has also been refreshed. Former New Zealand spinner Catherine Campbell will be chairperson, and Avril Fahey (Australia) and Pholetsi Moseki (South Africa) join as members.
ICC’s Exiled Afghanistan Women Cricketers Initiative
In a gesture of humanitarianism, ICC, together with BCCI, Cricket Australia, and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), has launched a focused fund to assist exiled Afghanistan women cricketers.
Since the Taliban’s coup in 2021, most Afghan female players had to leave their country. Players such as Firooza Amiri and Nahida Sapan, who are currently settled in Australia, have continued club-level cricket for Dandenong and Carnegie, respectively.
The ICC’s grant is to provide them with coaching exposure and financial support to restart and continue their career.
