China, the top seed, showcased its table tennis prowess by securing an impressive 8-1 victory over Germany, claiming the leading position in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Mixed Team World Cup. Simultaneously, South Korea displayed resilience, overcoming Japan 8-4, positioning themselves as strong contenders for the coveted title.

In a matchup against second-seeded Germany, China asserted their dominance with a 2-1 lead in the mixed doubles, as the world No. 1 pair Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha defeated Cedric Meissner and Wan Yuan 8-11, 11-7, 11-2, as reported by Xinhua.

Wang Manyu extended China’s lead by clinching victory in women’s singles against veteran Shan Xiaona with scores of 11-2, 11-5, 11-4. Table tennis icon Ma Long continued China’s winning streak with a commanding performance in straight games against Ricardo Walther in men’s singles.

In the intense three-way battle for the crown leading up to Friday’s matches, the clash between Japan and South Korea played a pivotal role in determining the eventual winner. The teams were tied at 3-all after the mixed doubles and women’s singles. South Korea surged ahead as Jang Woo-jin secured a hard-fought victory against Tomokazu Harimoto in men’s singles, with a scoreline of 9-11, 13-11, 11-9. The team then sealed their triumph as Jang Woo-jin and Lim Jong-hoon defeated Harimoto and Shunsuke Togami 11-8, 11-9, 11-1.

In other matches, France triumphed over Chinese Taipei with a scoreline of 8-3, and Sweden dominated Slovakia with a clean sweep of 8-0.

As the competition enters its final two days, China and South Korea, both undefeated, occupy the top two positions in the standings with 10 points each. China is slated to face Japan, currently in third place with nine points, while South Korea will take on Germany. Additional matchups include Slovakia against Chinese Taipei and Sweden against France.
