Southeast Asian Karate Championship 2025: Vietnam Tops With 28 Golds

Vietnam topped the medal tally at the Southeast Asian Karate Championship, with 28 gold, 31 silver and 17 bronze medals.

With this Vietnam successfully defended its top position, having also finished first in last year’s championship.

The nation continues to dominate karate in the region. Earlier, the Vietnamese karate team delivered a strong showing at the 2025 Asian Karate Championships in Uzbekistan, securing three gold medals and one bronze, and finishing third overall in the medal tally.

The Southeast Asian Karate Championship was held from June 17 to 19 in Brunei. The event was staged at the Indoor Stadium of Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex, Bandar Seri Begawan.

In the overall standings, Indonesia finished second, with 11 gold, nine silver and 24 bronze medals, while Thailand placed third with eight gold, six silver and 27 bronze medals.

Cambodian karate athletes won three medals at the 12th Southeast Asian Karate Federation Championships 2025. They secured one silver and two bronze medals in the Kumite category.

The six-day tournament featured 424 martial artists from nine countries in the region, competing in Kata (performance) and Kumite (combat) events across different age groups.

This was the 12th edition of the Southeast Asian Karate Championship. During the closing ceremony, the Southeast Asian Karate Federation handed the flag to Vietnam, designating it as the host for next year’s Southeast Asian Karate Championship.

The country will oversee the staging of the 2026 Southeast Asian Karate Championship.

In addition to achieving great results, this tournament provided the karatekas from the region with a crucial opportunity to gain international competition experience and assess regional opponents in the lead up to the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, which will take place later this year in Thailand.
