SRH vs DC: The Sunrisers Hyderabad clinched their fourth victory of the campaign by overcoming the Delhi Capitals by 47 runs in a match played down at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad.
Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad was the site of the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) where Axar Patel, captain of DC, won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Batting first, SRH scored a whopping 242 runs off 20 overs with Abhishek Sharma playing a blistering inning of 135 (68 balls 10 fours, 10 sixes) while supported by three other players who contributed between 31 and 37 runs each.
SRH vs DC: A Decent Start for Delhi
The challenge was immense for Delhi Capitals to chase down the target, as most of their batsmen were poorly performing at this time. This poor batting performance continued when they were 1 down during the power play. Nishanka was the first wicket to go down, which was taken by his countryman, Madhushanka (bowler).
Nitish Rana returned to the xi on this night and up until that point had gone strike for strike with clap (batting partner). They were able to consistently maintain the required run rate through smart, aggressive strategies. Rana was aggressive through this phase against each bowler as he scored quickly, while Rahul played a more conservative and methodical way.
SRH vs DC: Malinga’s Over Turns the Tide
Although Nitish batted aggressively and even reached his half-century, he eventually lost his wicket while attempting to further accelerate the scoring rate. Delhi suffered three major blows within the span of just five deliveries.
First, in the 9.4th over, Rahul fell victim to Shakib Hussain. then, on the first two balls of the 10th over, both Nitish Rana and the previous match-winner, David Miller who failed to even open his account were dismissed by Ishan Malinga. The Delhi team was left reeling after losing three wickets in quick succession.
Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi attempted to score runs, but by then the required run rate had climbed too high, leaving them with no option other than to play big shots. Thanks to Malinga and Abhishek Sharma, Hyderabad registered another victory.
Fall of lower order of Delhi Capitals
Following Stubbs’ dismissal, Ashutosh, too, failed to make an impact. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling unit performed exceptionally well in this match as well, securing another win for their team and taking a step closer to the top four.
For Delhi, Nitish Rana was the top scorer, smashing 57 runs off just 30 balls. Meanwhile, for Hyderabad, Ishan Malinga proved to be the most successful bowler, claiming 4 wickets for 32 runs in his spell.
