Sridharan Sriram Joins Lucknow Super Giants as Assistant Coach for IPL 2024

In preparation for the forthcoming IPL 2024 season, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise has appointed former Indian left-arm spinner, Sridharan Sriram, as their assistant coach. This announcement was made by the franchise on a Saturday, following their earlier decision to bring in Justin Langer as the new head coach, replacing Andy Flower.

The franchise issued a statement indicating that Sriram’s appointment completes their star-studded backroom staff, which is spearheaded by Langer and globally renowned mentor Gautam Gambhir. Additionally, Vijay Dahiya and Pravin Tambe will retain their positions as assistant coach and spin bowling coach, respectively, while the South African duo of Morne Morkel and Jonty Rhodes will continue their roles as the team’s bowling coach and fielding coach.

Sriram, who represented India in eight ODIs between 2000 and 2004, had a six-year stint as Australia’s assistant coach before stepping down from the role in 2022. His association with the Australian cricket setup began in 2016 when he was initially brought in as a spin coach under the leadership of then-head coach Darren Lehmann.

During his domestic cricket career, Sriram played for various teams, including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the development of cricketers like leg-spinner Adam Zampa, left-arm spinner Ashton Agar, and veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon. His influence also extended to enhancing the part-time spin abilities of Glenn Maxwell.

In addition to his coaching roles, Sriram was appointed as a technical consultant for the Bangladesh T20I team, a role that spanned from the Asia Cup to the T20 World Cup held in Australia the previous year. Further highlighting his credentials, Sriram achieved the prestigious ECB Level-3 “Head Coach” certification in 2008.

Sriram’s familiarity with the Indian Premier League (IPL) is noteworthy, as he previously worked as an assistant coach specializing in batting and spin bowling for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) until the most recent IPL season.
