Stanley Cup Playoffs 2025: Will Winnipeg Jets Break The Presidents’ Trophy Jinx? Check Schedule, Where To Watch

8 Min Read

The field is set for the Stanley Cup 2025 where the best clubs in ice-hockey will battle for the title glory. Sixteen teams have qualified for the play-offs which will begin on Saturday (19 April).

Stanley Cup Playoffs 2025: Qualified Teams

Western Conference Teams Eastern Conference Teams
Winnipeg Jets Washington Capitals
Dallas Stars Toronto Maple Leafs
Vegas Golden Knights Florida Panthers
Minnesota Wild Tampa Bay Lightning
Edmonton Oilers Carolina Hurricanes
Los Angeles Kings New Jersey Devils
Colorado Avalanche Detroit Red Wings
Calgary Flames Columbus Blue Jackets

Presidents’ Trophy Jinx

Winnipeg Jets won the Presidents’ Trophy with the best regular-season record. However, there is a jinx!. The last time a team that won the Presidents’ Trophy also lifted Lord Stanley’s Cup was in 2013. That was also the last time a Presidents’ Trophy winner even made it to the Cup Final; every other team has lost in one of the first three rounds of the playoffs.

Additionally, last year’s Presidents’ Trophy winner, the New York Rangers, missed out – becoming just the fourth team to win a Presidents’ Trophy one season then miss the playoffs the next.

Of the 16 teams which have qualified this year, two have never reached the Stanley Cup Final: the Minnesota Wild and the Jets.

The Montreal Canadiens, the most successful team in Stanley Cup history with 24 titles, is the team with the most Stanley Cup Final appearances (35) to have made the 2025 playoffs.

The Florida Panthers are the defending Cup champions.

Stanley Cup Playoffs 2025: Schedule

The schedule has been released only for the first round. The second round, conference finals, and Stanley Cup Finals schedules will be released later in the playoffs. They will be based on how quickly each previous round finishes in each conference.

Home ice in the first and second rounds is given to the team with the higher regular-season position. In the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals, home ice goes to the team with the better regular-season record, regardless of their divisional or conference position.
