India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has successfully undergone surgery for a sports hernia in Germany. The sensational batter provided a health update on June 25 through his social media, assuring cricket fans that he is on the road to recovery and is optimistic about getting back to cricket soon.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Surgery: Second Sports Hernia Procedure in Months

This marks the second sports hernia surgery for Suryakumar Yadav in less than a year. In his latest post, the cricketer mentioned:

“Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back.”

Before that, Yadav had undergone the same procedure in January 2024 and had also had an ankle surgery in December 2023, illustrating the strain of playing international-level cricket over the two years.

Despite his injury issues, Suryakumar Yadav showed incredible form during the IPL 2025. Playing for Mumbai Indians (MI), the 34-year-old was their top run-getter, scoring:

Before his surgery, he also led Triumph’s Knights MNE in the Mumbai T20 League 2025, but the team didn’t make it to the semifinals.

India’s upcoming T20I series is set in Bangladesh from August 26. With almost two months of recovery time, Suryakumar is eyeing a return. But if he isn’t completely fit, vice-captain Axar Patel will reportedly replace him as captain.
