Bangladesh won the toss & decided to bat.
1st Innings – Bangladesh puts a mammoth score of 181/7 on board
Bangladesh lost a wicket on the 2nd ball itself as they were 0/1 in 0.2 overs. A 50 run partnership between Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan, gave them a chance to pull themselves up. The partnership was broken as Liton Das lost his wicket, with him scoring 29 Runs off 23 balls.
Meanwhile, great knocks by Shakib Al Hasan, who scored 46 Runs (off 37 deliveries). Captain Mahmudullah reached his half-century and score 50 (off 28 balls), putting Bangladesh in a safe position.
However, the power hitters among the lower-order batsmen lead to Bangladesh putting up a mammoth score on board. Afif Hossain’s innings of 21 Runs off 14 balls and Mohammad Saifuddin’s unbeaten 19 Runs off just 6 balls were very pivotal during the death overs.
As a result, Bangladesh finished their innings at 181/7 (20 overs).
2nd Innings – Papua New Guinea needs to score 182 runs to win
While chasing a big total, Papua New Guinea lost wickets at regular intervals. They had lost 4 wickets in the first five overs. Papua New Guinea was in trouble as they were 14/4 in 4.4 overs. With, Shakib Al Hasan striking in his very 1st over – as he picked up two wickets.
However, most of the PNG batsmen got out registering a single-digit score, except for Kiplin Doriga their wicket-keeper, who remained unbeaten at 46 off 34 deliveries but was helpless as wickets fell at the other end.
As a result, Papua New Guinea got dismissed for 97. With this, Bangladesh won the match by 84 runs and have qualified for the Super 12.
Once again, the Player of the Match has been awarded to Shakib Al Hasan for his excellent performance – 46 Runs (off 37) & a bowling spell of 4/9 with an economy of 2.25.
