T20 World Cup: Scotland have qualified for the next round, as they won by 8 Wickets against Oman
With this, Scotland & Bangladesh have advanced into the Super 12’s – from Group B of Round 1. Meanwhile, Oman and Papua New Guinea are out of the tournament.
The 10th Match of the 2021 T20 World Cup between Oman and Scotland was played on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground. This encounter was the last match of Group B in Round 1.
The 2021 T20 World Cup consists of two rounds; Round 1 has 8 Teams divided into Group A & Group B. From here, 4 Teams will qualify into Round 2 – the Super 12’s.
Earlier, another encounter from Group B – Bangladesh vs Papua New Guinea was played where Bangladesh won the match by 84 runs, hence sealing their qualification for the next round.
With this, the final Group B standings are as follows – Scotland are at the top with 6 points, Bangladesh is placed at 2nd with 4 points, Oman are at 3rd with 2 points and Papua New Guinea, being winless are at the bottom.

Scotland won by 8 Wickets, have qualified for Round 2 – the Super 12
1st Innings – Oman puts 122 Runs on the board
The Scottish players found themselves dominating early on, as Oman lost two quick wickets. Oman were 13/2 in 2.5 overs.
Then Aqib Ilyas, the opener had a good knock of 37 Runs off 35 balls. However, Aqib Ilyas lost his wicket – Oman, then were at 51/3 (9.3 overs).
After that, Mohammad Nadeem & Captain Zeeshan Maqsood made sure they put 122 runs on board. Mohammad Nadeem scored 25 Runs off 21 balls and the skipper Zeeshan Maqsood made 34 runs off 30 deliveries.
However, only those 3 batsmen scored big for Oman as others departed scoring in single digits. As a result, Oman got dismissed at 122 within 20 overs.
2nd Innings – Scotland’s target is 123 runs
While chasing, Scotland were looking good from the start, even though they lost the wicket of George Munsey who scored 20 of 19 balls. Scotland were 33/1 in 4.4 overs.
Then it was Scotland’s captain Kyle Coetzer, who carried on the innings by smashing five boundaries and adding runs on the scoreboard for the team. Coetzer’s fine innings of 41 Runs off 28 balls was stopped by Oman’s Khawar Ali as he bowled him out. At that stage, Scotland were 75/2 (9.6 overs).
However, it was the pair of Matthew Cross & Richie Berrington that helped Scotland reach the target as they ended their innings at 123/2, with Matthew Cross – 26* (off 35 deliveries) & Richie Berrington – 31* (off 21 balls) remaining unbeaten.
As a result, Scotland won the match by 8 Wickets and have qualified for the next round – the Super 12’s.
Meanwhile, the Player of the Match was given to Scotland’s Josh Davey for his good bowling performance of 3/25.
