West Indies’s qualification hopes are alive after winning the thrilling encounter by 3 runs
1st Innings – West Indies puts 142 Runs on the board
The decision to bowl first turned out to be amazing for Bangladesh. By the 7th Over, West Indies was 3 down as Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle and Shimron Hetmyer were back in the pavilion. They were 32/3 (6.4 overs). However, Captain Kieron Pollard then retired hurt.
Just after that, Andre Russell lost his wicket as Roston Chase hits it straight down the ground but Taskin Ahmed puts his foot out and the ball gets deflected went on to hit the stump at non-striker’s end – Russell was way outside of the crease. West Indies was 62/4 in 12.4 overs.
Then a wonderful hitting by Nicholas Pooran – as he made a 50 Run Stand with Roston Chase. However, Shoriful Islam strikes for Bangladesh as he sent back the set batsmen to the pavilion – Pooran scored 40 (off 22 balls) and Chase made 39 (off 46). West Indies was at 119/6 (18.2 overs).
Then, Kieron Pollard came back onto the field in the last over after Dwayne Bravo’s dismissal. Pollard along with Jason Holder added 19 runs in the end. With that, West Indies finished their innings at 142/7 (20 overs).
2nd Innings – Bangladesh’s Target is 143 Runs
Bangladesh lost two wickets in the powerplay overs, of openers Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Naim. They were 29/2 in 5.4 overs.
Then another two quick wickets of Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim resulted in them being 90/4 (13.3 overs).
However, wicket-keeper Liton Das and Captain Mahmudullah made a 40 Run Stand as they hit boundaries. But, this partnership was broken as Liton Das – 44 (off 43 balls) lost his wicket as Dwayne Bravo strikes and Jason Holder took the catch. Bangladesh was 130/5 (18.6 overs).
Bangladesh needed 4 runs off the last ball but Andre Russell delivers a dot ball, as Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah couldn’t guide his team to victory. Hence, Bangladesh finished their innings at 139/5 (20 overs).
As a result, West Indies won the match by 3 Runs. Thus, the Player of the Match was awarded to Nicholas Pooran for his amazing knock of 40 (off 22).
