Tadej Pogacar once again proved his supremacy with a commanding solo victory at the European Road Race Championships in France. It was not only a memorable moment for the Slovenian star, but the entire UAE Team Emirates XRG as they celebrated one of their most remarkable weekends of the season, clinching major victories on three fronts across Europe.
Tadej Pogacar Adds European Gold to Glittering Season
Riding for Slovenia, Pogacar launched an astonishing 75-kilometre solo attack through the challenging terrain of the Drôme-Ardèche region. The race, anticipated as a showdown between three of cycling’s top stars- Pogacar, Remco Evenepoel (Belgium), and Jonas Vingegaard (Denmark)- quickly turned into a masterclass of dominance.
Evenepoel gave chase but couldn’t close the gap, eventually finishing 31 seconds behind. Vingegaard failed to finish.
“It wasn’t super dominant- I had to push really hard,” Pogacar admitted post-race. “When I saw I was alone against multiple Belgians, it made more sense to attack. Thankfully, it paid off.”
The victory adds another major title to Pogacar’s already historic season, which includes:
- A fourth Tour de France title in July
- A second consecutive World Championship win
- And now, the European crown
He becomes the first rider in history to win the Tour de France and the Men’s Road Race World Championships in the same season twice in succession. With form like this, he now eyes a fifth consecutive win at the upcoming Giro di Lombardia.
