India player Tilak Varma has been ruled out for the first three matches in the T20 International series against New Zealand, set to take place on the 21st, 23rd, and 25th of January. The young left-handed player recently went in for surgery due to testicular torsion in the city of Rajkot on the 7th of January.

BCCI confirms stable recovery

It is As reported by the Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI), “Tilak Varma has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering well,” and is expected to return to Hyderabad this Friday. The 19-year-old is expected to recover from this setback.

Return to Training Dependent on Recovery

The BCCI further explained that Tilak will only be allowed to recommence training and skill-based cricketing activities after his symptoms subside substantially and the surgical wound heals satisfactorily. He will be kept under close observation by the medical team in the days that follow.

Availability for Remaining T20Is to Be Assessed

Although Tilak Varma will miss the first three games of the five-match T20I series, his participation in the last two games scheduled to take place on January 28 in Visakhapatnam and January 31 in Thiruvananthapuram has not been entirely ruled out. In fact, his availability would depend upon his progress and fitness during the intervening period.

Impact on India’s T20I Plans

Tilak Varma’s absence in the early part of the series is thus a bit of a setback to the Indian middle order, considering the form he has been in and the growing importance in the T20 setup. But the management wants him fully fit, after which he can perform well.
