The Tokyo Paralympics 2020 which is being held from 24th August – 5th September 2021 is by far India’s best performance at the Summer Paralympic Games. With the total medal tally touching 10, the Indian Para athletes are performing excellently showcasing their determination to win and being an inspiration to all.
The Men’s High Jump – T63 Final which was held in the Olympic Stadium, Tokyo on 31st August saw two Indians making the podium finish. The defending champion from 2016 Mariyappan Thangavelu had to settle for the silver medal and thus couldn’t defend his title as he cleared the jump of 1.86m. Whereas, the 29-year-old Sharad Kumar won bronze with 1.83.
It was the Season Best for both the Indians athletes. Hence, India reached the double-digit in the overall medal tally. The gold medal was won by USA’s Sam Grewe as he succeeded to clear the 1.88m mark in his 3rd attempt. The final was the last event of Day 7 for the Indian contingent.
But for Varun Singh Bhati, 3rd Indian competing in the same final didn’t have a chance for a podium finish as he finished 7th. As of now, India has won two gold, five silver, and three bronze medals at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020.
