Dale Steyn took the cricketing world by surprise as he announced his retirement
The 38-year-old South African fast bowler – Dale Steyn choose Twitter as a medium to announce his retirement from all forms of the game on 31st August, Tuesday
Dale Steyn who is regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers shared his retirement news on Twitter. He posted a note conveying his message to the world.
The South African pacer wrote, “It’s been 20 years of training, matches, travel, wins, losses, strapped feet, jet lag, joy, and brotherhood. There are too many memories to tell. Too many faces to thank. ”
He further mentioned that “Today I officially retire from the game I love the most. Bittersweet but grateful.” He went on to thank his family, teammates, journalists, and fans.

Dale Steyn, the Right-Arm Fast Bowler made his international debut for South Africa on 17th December 2004 in a Test match against England. He played for South Africa from 2004-2020. In his 16 years long career as a cricketer, he has played over 93 Tests and picked 439 wickets, 125 ODIs and took 196 wickets, 47 T20 Internationals taking 64 wickets. Thus his overall count is 600+ wickets.
The star player had earlier announced his retirement from Test Cricket in 2019, to focus on ODIs and T20Is. Reacting to Dale Steyn’s retirement news, his former Proteas teammate AB de Villiers tweeted, “Great player, great man, amazing memories! U picker is a good song to sign off my bud. Legend forever!”
