England’s star batter and former captain Joe Root was recently part of the playing XI in the first Test of the ongoing three-match series against New Zealand last week. However, Root had a poor outing with the bat as he managed to score only 1 and 8 in the two innings at Lord’s.

Harry Brook dethrones Joe Root to become World No. 1 Test batter

Following a disappointing outing at the Lord’s, Joe Root slipped down the ICC Test batting rankings. In the latest rankings released by the ICC on June 10, the England star dropped two spots to third place among Test batters. Root currently sits in third place with 851 rating points, ending his stay in the top two positions.

England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook climbed to the top to become the World No. 1 Test batter. Brook was the highest run-scorer for England against New Zealand at Lord’s as he scored 56 in the first innings, but failed to open his account in the second innings. The star all-rounder now has 869 rating points.

Travis Head continues his impressive run in Test cricket, as he is currently sitting in second place in the ICC rankings with 853 rating points.

Shubman Gill climbs to No. 8 spot in ICC Test batter rankings

India had a dominant outing in their Test match this June, crushing their opponents by an innings and 300 runs. Shubman Gill and KL Rahul were the stars with the bat, both scoring centuries. Gill made 126 as captain, while Rahul contributed an impressive 100 at the top of the order. Gill’s knock in Mullanpur was particularly rewarding as he climbed to the No. 8 spot in the ICC rankings, making him India’s top-ranked Test batter right now with 743 points.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, meanwhile, slipped a spot to No. 9 after his disappointing performance against Afghanistan. The left-handed opener could only manage 24 runs off 32 balls. He holds 733 rating points. Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, had a decent outing with 81 runs off 121 balls, and that was enough to move him up one place to 12th.

On the flip side, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson dropped one place, and Rachin Ravindra had a tough week; he fell four spots and now sits 13th in the world.

In the bowling charts, New Zealand’s Matt Henry had one to forget at Lord’s, dropping three places to seventh with 812 points. But England’s Gus Atkinson was the story of the match, a five-wicket haul in New Zealand’s second innings, which fired him seven places up the rankings, straight into the top 10.
