Anthony Frank Hawk, also popularly known as Birdman, is an American skateboarder, businessman, and proprietor of the Birdhouse skateboard brand. Hawk was born on May 12, 1968. Hawk, a forerunner of contemporary vertical skateboarding,[6] executed the first known “900” feat in 1999. In the same year, Activision released a series of skateboarding video games with his name on them. He is recognized as one of the most important skateboarders of all time and gave up professional competition in 2003.
He conquered skateboarding tournaments in the 1980s and 1990s. From 1984 to 1996, he has voted the best vert skater each year, winning 73 titles in the process. Several more techniques were also created by him, such as the gymnast plant, the frontside 540-rodeo flip, and the Saran wrap. Hawk founded Blitz, a distributor of skateboard items, and Birdhouse, a maker of skateboards and accessories, in the early 1990s. The businesses were profitable, and he soon started working on other projects. Hawk Apparel, a line of children’s skate clothes that he and his family founded in 1998, was also the same year that he signed a deal with Activision to make a video game with a skateboarding theme. Hawk stopped competing in 1999, but he continued to actively promote the sport and his goods.
