Do you know about these E-Sports scandals?

Scandals in any sport have been a common occurrence for a long time but in the last decade and more, the world has witnessed scandals in E-Sports as well.

Cheating in games has been done by many players. There are some who have been caught while some have managed to get away with it. In professional E-Sports and Gaming, cheating becomes even trickier. The player has a camera on themselves all the time while their screen is being monitored by the regulators.

Here are some of the top scandals in E-Sports history:

Forsaken uses an aim bot at the Counter-Strike tournament

Using an aim bot while playing a shooting game is the biggest help a player can get in a game. There have been several players who have been caught using an aim bot during streaming and have been punished accordingly. But bringing an aim bot to a Counter-Strike tournament does not happen often.

When Nikhil “Forsaken” Kumawat arrived at the 2018 eXtremesland competition, he had not received that memo.  His aimbot triggered the anti-cheat software and as tournament officials arrived to seize his PC, cameras saw him hurriedly attempting to erase the aimbot software from his computer.

CS: GO Coaches caught cheating

It is another appearance of the famous shooting game, Counter-Strike. It was witnessed that at least 37 professional CS: GO coaches had taken use of a loophole that allowed them to watch games unrestrictedly on the map and communicate with their squad. The Esports Integrity Commission sanctioned them, and in 2021 Valve, the company under which Counter-Strike is registered, itself instituted a new rule prohibiting non-players from connecting to the server during contests and permanently banning four instructors.

Players on drugs

Yet another scandal involving Counter-Strike is after a member of the North American CS: GO squad Cloud9 claimed that the team was “all on Adderall” during ESL One Katowice and urged that “everyone” at the event take the drug, which is used to treat ADHD. The league started random drug testing after the event.

Racial abuse in a heated moment

Carlo “Kuku” Palad of the Dota 2 team TNC Predator was gearing up for the 2019 Major in Chongqing, China when a previous remark was brought back to haunt him. In a public match in 2018, Kuku entered the chat phrase “ching chong” while he was losing to another Chinese team. This was obviously a racial slur used at the enemy team. China eventually disallowed Kuku to play in the event.
