- Owen Hart’s Shocking Death
The history of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has witnessed numerous tragic instances where the wrestlers were severely injured while performing stunts in the wrestling ring. One such shocking and unfortunate instance killed Owen Hart on May 23, 1999 while he was attempting to make a power-packed entrance into the ring at “Over the Edge 1999” from the Kemper Arena, tied down with a harness and is therefore at the first spot in our list of Top 4 Biggest WWE Controversies.
As the harness was being lowered down to the ring, the grip loosened and the WWE superstar tragically fell down from a height of about 80 feet. Although Owen Hart was immediately rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead due to a heavy internal bleeding.
- WWE Disowned Chris Benoit
At the second spot in our list of Top 4 Biggest WWE Controversies we have Canadian professional wrestler, Christopher Michael Benoit often simply referred to as “Chris Benoit” as he was accused of murdering his wife and son in 2007. According to reports, the WWE employers had requested the authorities for a “welfare check” to Benoit’s residence as the wrestler was missing for a couple of weeks without any notice.
When the officials entered Benoit’s residence they discovered his wife and seven year old son’s strangulated dead bodies. When the investigation was conducted, it was revealed that it was Chris Benoit who first brutally murdered his own wife and son under the influence of drugs and later committed suicide in his own residence’s lat pulldown machine. In order to avoid any controversy, the WWE instantly distanced themselves from Chris Benoit and disowned him like he was never a part of the format.
- Hulk Hogan’s Racist Remarks
American retired professional wrestler, Hulk Hogan has been under the spotlight for his racist comments and remarks against fellow WWE wrestlers for a major part of his wrestling career at the WWE and is rightfully at the third spot in our list of Top 4 Biggest WWE Controversies. As per reports, Hulk Hogan was caught live spilling hate comments about his daughter Brooke’s relationship with her African-American boyfriend.
The racist comments from Hulk Hogan resulted in a lawsuit and WWE instantly fired him, making the instance one of the biggest controversies in the history of WWE. Although, later Hulk Hogan publicly apologized for his racist comments and WWE reinstated him to the Hall of Fame, his image suffered a major blow among the fans of WWE.
