Getting to a European final is one of the hardest achievements in club football for both managers and the players. It takes consistency, tactical quality, squad management, and the ability to handle pressure across an entire season.

Over the last 15 years, a small group of managers have managed to do it again and again. Different clubs, different leagues, different squads but the same result: European finals.

Five managers who have reached the most European finals since 2010

Unai Emery – 6 Finals

No manager has appeared in more European finals since 2010 than Unai Emery.

The Spanish coach built his reputation during his unforgettable spell with Sevilla, where he led the club to three straight Europa League titles. At a time when Sevilla were not considered one of Europe’s elite clubs financially, Emery turned them into knockout specialists.

He later added another Europa League trophy with Villarreal and continued proving that few managers understand European football quite like him.

What makes Emery stand out is his ability to maximise teams that are often considered underdogs. His sides are usually organised, difficult to break down, and incredibly well prepared for two-legged ties.

Jürgen Klopp – 5 Finals

Jürgen Klopp’s teams have produced some of the most memorable European nights of the modern era.

He first reached the Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund in 2013 before rebuilding Liverpool into one of Europe’s strongest teams. Under Klopp, Liverpool became regular contenders again and reached multiple finals across different competitions.

His high-energy football, emotional touchline presence, and connection with supporters made his teams dangerous opponents in Europe for years.

Even when Liverpool were not favourites, Klopp’s sides always seemed capable of producing something special.

Diego Simeone – 4 Finals

Diego Simeone completely changed Atlético Madrid’s place in European football. When he arrived, Atlético were not viewed as consistent challengers for the Champions League. Over time, Simeone built a team that could compete with clubs carrying much bigger budgets and stronger squads on paper.

His teams became known for discipline, aggression, defensive structure, and relentless mentality. Although he suffered painful defeats in Champions League finals against Real Madrid, reaching four European finals with Atlético remains one of the most impressive managerial achievements of the modern era.

Luis Enrique – 3 Finals

Luis Enrique often does not receive the same attention as some other elite managers, but his European record deserves respect.

He guided Barcelona to a historic treble in 2015 with one of the most dangerous attacking teams football has ever seen. Years later, he returned to another European final with PSG and once again showed his ability to manage elite-level pressure.

His teams usually play attacking football, but there is also tactical balance and adaptability behind the scenes that often goes unnoticed.

Pep Guardiola – 3 Finals

Pep Guardiola’s influence on modern football goes far beyond trophies. Since 2010, he has consistently coached teams expected to dominate both domestically and in Europe. Whether at Bayern Munich or Manchester City, Guardiola’s sides have regularly reached the latter stages of European competitions.

Critics have sometimes questioned whether he should have won more Champions League titles during that period, but consistently reaching finals in different leagues is still an extraordinary achievement. Few managers in football history have shaped the game tactically the way Guardiola has over the last decade.
