Top scorers for Paris Saint-Germain all-time: Mbappe passes Cavani
Paris Saint-Germain has a relatively short history, having been established 52 years ago in 1970.
That hasn’t stopped them from being one of the most successful French clubs in history, as they have enjoyed unprecedented domestic dominance since the Qatari takeover in 2011.
So, which players have etched their names in PSG’s brief history as the club’s highest goal scorers?
France’s Kylian Mbappe leads the list with more than 200 goals. In the 2022-23 season, Mbappe will surpass Edinson Cavani as PSG’s all-time leading goal scorer.
In 2021-22, the World Cup winner became the first player in Ligue 1 history to score and assist the most goals in the same season, with 28 goals and 17 assists.
Cavani, meanwhile, was signed from Napoli for €64 million, the sixth-most expensive transfer in football history at the time, and was a lethal striker for the capital club.
His best season was the 2016-17 season, when he scored 49 goals in just 50 games across all competitions.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Sweden is third with 156 goals in only 180 games. His most ruthless days as a goal scorer came in PSG colours, where he averaged a goal every 97 minutes. He also holds the Ligue 1 record for scoring in the most consecutive games (nine).
Neymar, who has started the 2022-23 season in brilliant form, is fourth with 111 goals in 159 appearances. It is safe to say that if he hadn’t been plagued by injuries, he would have scored even more goals.
Pauleta, a Portuguese striker who played for PSG from 2003 to 2008, scored 109 goals for Les Parisiens, finishing as the Ligue 1 top scorer in 2005-06 and 2006-07. Even though PSG were not particularly strong at the time, he was able to help the club win two Coupe de France titles as well as a Coupe de la Ligue.
Dominique Rocheta, the sixth-highest goal scorer in PSG history with 100 goals in a seven-year career, led PSG to the Ligue 1 title in 1985-86, scoring 19 goals in 35 league games. He was also a member of the French national team that won the UEFA Euros in 1984.
Angel Di Maria, who joined PSG in 2015, had some outstanding individual moments during his time there. Despite not being well-known for his goal-scoring exploits, as he was not among the top scorers at Real Madrid or Benfica, it can be said that he had his best years as a goal scorer while playing for PSG, scoring 93 goals in 295 games.
Safet Susic (85 goals), Rai (74 goals), and Guillaume Hoarau (57 goals) round out PSG’s top ten goal scorers.
