UAE vs OMA: In the Asia Cup 2025 match between Oman and the UAE played in Abu Dhabi, the UAE produced a superb all-round performance to win by 42 runs.
It was a strong start thanks to fireworks from Alishan Sharafu in the form of a half-century and Muhammad Waseem’s brave effort, while Junaid Siddique’s impressive four wickets erased Oman’s remaining hope during their disastrous powerplay collapse.
Sharafu’s Aggression Pulls Attention in UAE vs OMA, Asia Cup 2025
Alishan Sharafu impressed with his aggressive approach on a tough, slow pitch. The young batsman responded beautifully by repeatedly moving out of the crease in the powerplay, with six boundaries coming off twelve strides down the pitch.
With UAE languishing at 11/0 in the third over, Sharafu’s aggressive approach changed the momentum. UAE made the most of it by slamming 39 runs over the subsequent three overs. One of the highlight shots was against leg-spinner Samay Shrivastava a beautiful inside-out loft over cover for six, and evidence of Sharafu’s comfort and shot-making.
Waseem Hits Milestone in Hard-Fought Fifty
Although not in his fluent best, Muhammad Waseem’s innings was impressive. His 69 off 54 balls stabilized UAE’s innings. With this knock, he became the fourth-quickest player to make 3000 T20I runs, behind cricketing legends such as Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan.
Waseem’s experience stood out as he punished newcomer Aamir Kaleem for three boundaries in one over during the powerplay. His fifty featured a signature six down the ground, although Oman let opportunities slip to get rid of him early. Misfields and dropped catches, including an easy one at short fine leg, further tormented Oman.
Middle Order Finishes Strong
Following decent starts by the top order, UAE’s middle-order players supported the team to a fighting total of 172/5. Harshit Kaushik and Muhammad Zohaib supported in good measure, adding a blistering 40 runs off only 21 balls, providing UAE with the ideal finish on a difficult pitch.
Oman’s Powerplay Collapse Proves Costly
Pursuing 173, Oman struggled in the powerplay. Although Oman got a short cameo from Jatinder Singh, who sprinted to 20 off 10 balls, Oman lost four wickets for only 32 runs. Singh’s departure dragging the ball onto his stumps caused a collapse as three wickets dropped in 14 deliveries.
UAE’s Junaid Siddique played a big role in breaking down the middle and lower order. He took 4 wickets for 23 runs, of which two came in the 16th over, as Oman got bowled out for 130, giving UAE a convincing 42-run victory.
