Under-19 World Cup: Mhatre And Ambrish Power India To Big Win, Parmar Scripts Japan’s Historic Triumph

The latest event of the Under-19 World Cup produced contrasting stories as India sustained their winning juggernaut, dominating their encounter against New Zealand, while Japan achieved a milestone as they secured their first-ever win in a World Cup event, thanks to a stellar show by Nihar Parmar.

India and New Zealand: Dominance in Group B

India completed the group phase of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in style with a win against New Zealand to remain unbeaten in the tournament and finish atop Group B. Ayush Mhatre and seamer RS Ambrish were among the stars as the entire team performed well.

Early Strikes Set the Tone

After choosing to field, India promptly struck during the powerplay overs. Ambrish scored twice, dismissing Hugo Bogue and Aryan Mann, while Henil Patel joined the party to leave the Kiwis in trouble at 17 for 3 before the rain stopped the game.

However, with a delayed restart, the match was trimmed to 37 overs, and things only worsened for New Zealand. They slipped from 22/5 and 69/7, not being able to cope with India’s disciplined bowling attack.

Late Resistance, Then Collapse

Japan vs Tanzania: Parmar Creates History

In the 15th place playoff of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup tournament, Nihar Parmar gave a scintillating performance to help Japan register their first-ever victory in the tournament by beating Tanzania completely.

Parmar, Pol Lead Bowling Charge

Tanzania chose to bat first and began doing so steadily through their opening batsman Acrey Hugo, as he scored 79 runs in partnership with Ayaan Sharrif. Following this, the innings was in shambles.

Parmar declared 4 for 30, assisted by Nikhil Pol, who contributed 3 for 23, as Tanzania saw off their last seven wickets for just 13 runs as they were bowled out for 131.

Calm Chase Completes Historic Win

Conversely, Japan responded with an approach characterized by poise and order. Parmar and Taylor Waugh combined to bring up a decisive 122-run opening stand, serving to wrap up the game by clocking 27 overs.

Though Waugh was dismissed by 47, he just failed to hit a half-century, but Tani-Kelly completed the innings in style with a four and a six in quick succession. Parmar was unbeaten on 53 in a memorable day.

A Milestone Moment at the Under-19 World Cup

This victory marked Japan’s maiden triumph in any World Cup competition when it occurred in the second World Cup the Japanese Under-19 side had attended. Although theTanzanian team ended their inaugural World Cup competition without a win, the Japanese ended theirs on a high.
