US Open 2025: Top 5 Players To Watch

4 Min Read

After the much talked about US Open mixed doubles event, all focus now shifts on top tennis stars in the singles event.

The 2025 US Open is the 145th edition of tennis’ US Open and the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year.

Actions will take place from August 24- September 7 on outdoor hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.

Here are the top five players to watch out for at US Open 2025:

Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner made a very sorry exit from the Cincinnati Open Final where he had to retire and concede defeat to Carlos Alcaraz. He gave a major health scare to fans and his fitness is going to be a major concern, although he has vowed to take part in Flushing Meadows to defend his crown.

The World Number One has appeared in the finals of all the three Grand Slam tournaments this season. He has won the Australian Open and Wimbledon. He will be bidding to win the fourth and the final grand slam of 2025.

Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz will be entering the tournament in New York fresh off from winning the Cincinnati Open title, an ATP 1000 masters tournament. He was declared the winner in the final after Sinner retired due to bad health. However, since it is widely believed that the run in Cincinnati defines the outcome in New York, the Spaniard would be counting his stars for his second Grand Slam title at the US Open.

The 22-year-old had reached the finals of the previous three Grand Slam this year and emerged champion in the French Open.

Novak Djokovic

The US Open will be the first tournament that Novak Djokovic will play after Wimbledon. He finished as a semifinalist in all the Grand Slam tournaments he played earlier this year and would be bidding for his first major trophy this season.

The Serb took a break of over a month to avoid putting extra burden on his body, focussing only on the US Open as he looked to win his 25th Grand Slam title. It is to be seen if the 38-year-old could achieve one of the greatest feats.

Aryna Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka has not won a single Grand Slam this year and the US Open is her only opportunity. The World Number One is also in the danger of losing the top spot in rankings.

The Belarusian is the defending champion in women’s Singles and she would be facing a tough challenge from the likes of Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff. She has won only two WTA 1000 titles this season- the Miami Open and the Madrid Open during the first half of the season.

Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek is in a sensational form having won the Wimbledon Championship and Cincinnati Open titles in the last two months. Both were prestigious events and she emerged victorious with dominant performance on both grass and hard courts. The victories also launched her to the world number two position in rankings.

In the mixed doubles at the US Open, she made it to the final, when all other top stars faltered in the first round itself. She would now look to carry forward the momentum to the singles event.
