India’s cricket wonder-kid, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who already holds the record for the fastest IPL century by an Indian, has been making waves against Australia in the Youth ODI series. In the second game, he smashed six sixes on his way to a fiery 68-ball 70. In the third Youth ODI in Brisbane on Friday, Suryavanshi once again started strong with two sixes but was dismissed after a quick 16-ball 20.

Middle-Order Heroes Step Up

While Suryavanshi couldn’t make it big this time, the middle-order duo of Vedant Trivedi and Rahul Kumar rose to the occasion. Both scored crucial half-centuries and stitched together a 99-run stand for the fourth wicket. Vedant top-scored with a classy 86 off 92 balls, while Rahul added a steady 62 off 84 deliveries. Thanks to their partnership, India managed a competitive 280 for 9.

Bowlers Seal the Deal

Australia’s chase never really got going. They were rocked early at 39 for 3, with left-arm pacer Udhav Mohan striking three times in quick succession. The pressure didn’t ease as left-arm spinner Khilan Patel took over, claiming 4 wickets for just 26 runs. Australia’s innings crumbled, and they were bowled out for only 113 in 28.3 overs.

Clean Sweep for India U19

With this huge 167-run win, India Under-19 completed a 3-0 clean sweep of the series. It was also their biggest victory of the three matches. Earlier, they had beaten the hosts by seven wickets and 51 runs in the first two games.

Key Contributions Along the Way

India didn’t get the best start after opting to bat. Skipper Ayush Mhatre was out for just 4, his third single-digit score of the series, and Suryavanshi followed soon after. At 36 for 2, left-hander Vihaan Malhotra steadied the ship with a patient 40 off 52 balls, building a 69-run stand with Vedant. Wicketkeeper-batter Harvansh Pangalia chipped in with 23, and Khilan Patel added an unbeaten 19 down the order to push India past 280.

On the bowling front, apart from Udhav Mohan’s fiery 3 for 26 and Khilan Patel’s match-winning 4 for 26, Kanishk Chouhan also contributed with 2 for 18. Australia only had three players reaching double digits, with Alex Turner (32) and Tom Hogan (28) being the top scorers.

Brief Scores

India U19: 280 for 9 in 50 overs (Vihaan Malhotra 40, Vedant Trivedi 86, Rahul Kumar 62; Rahul Kumar 3/45, Kasey Barton 3/39)
Australia U19: 113 all out in 28.3 overs (Alex Turner 32, Tom Hogan 28; Udhav Mohan 3/26, Khilan Patel 4/26, Kanishk Chouhan 2/18)
